How do you
decide what to lead? I’m
actually deciding while the auction is going on. Every time I hear a bid from my
opponents I think about what I am going to lead, so that when the
contract is decided, I almost always have the lead on the table immediately. The auction provides many clues,
but you must pay attention.
If you think dummy will be providing shortness somewhere,
maybe leading trump is the answer.
If you think dummy has a good side suit, it’s
important to try to set up defense’s winners quickly. It’s important to pay close
attention to the auction before pulling a card to lead.
